Saturday was the girls’ ballet recital! Instead of recital they call it a defilé, which means procession or show. It was very casual, which I loved. Dress code in class is fairly strict – black leotard, pink tights, belt in the color of your class. For the defilé, everyone just wore their regular outfit, but they accented it with some sort of headpiece or tutu. It was nice because it kept things simple, and I didn’t have to buy costumes we’ll never wear again. My mom even commented that she loved the simplicity.
At the last class the receptionist sat down next to me and asked if I would be the parent volunteer. In a weak moment, I said yes. The other parents stuck around a bit during rehearsal, but after waiting 30 minutes in this hallway, everyone else left and said they’d check in with me later. Smart people. The kids were awesome though.
My view during rehearsal and the show! Not the best for picture taking unfortunately. I didn’t even try to video it. Rehearsal was rough. Unlike our other schools, they didn’t send him a video of the dance or require the girls to practice at home. This was fine considering we probably wouldn’t have had time to practice anyway. Luckily, rehearsal jogged their memory and the show performance was wonderful!
The girls have really loved focusing on just ballet, so much so that we are going to do summer lessons. It’s a short four week session, but I think it will be good for them. So far, when they like something, they don’t have a problem putting in the practice time, so I’m hoping this is the same. Next fall, they will move up a level and have dance two nights a week. If things work out, we’ll have piano and ballet on Monday evenings, then ballet again on Wednesdays. Luckily, they’re building a new dance studio and it’s super close to our house otherwise we wouldn’t be able to pull this schedule off!
