Theatrical Experiences

on April 12, 2016

I’d seen advertisements for the Marvel Live! show but to be honest, I just kind of skipped over them. We had already done Disney on Ice earlier this winter, there was really no need for another one of these shows. And then we caught The Avengers on tv one night and we all got so into it, I was reminded that we are kind of a super hero, Avengers loving family and this show was right up our alley.

Overall, two thumbs up. The fight scenes maybe got a little long, and the dialogue was maybe a little awkward at times, but overall the show was great. Lots of cool stunts, and lots of cool visual effects.

On Sunday, we headed to Mankato to go to Mary Poppins with my parents. They live near a university that has a fabulous theater department. Mary Poppins was amazing! Spectacular singing and really, really wonderful actors. I was only vaguely familiar with the storyline (I’ve never seen the movie with Julie Andrews which needs to be rectified soon), but loved how so many of the lines were familiar! The only slight downside was that it was long, and after sitting through almost two hours the night before, then the hour plus drive, Caden could not sit still for more then two minutes. Luckily we were at the end of our row and no one was really behind us, so I was the only driven mad by the ants in her pants.

Super fun weekend with two shows that could not have been more different from each other!

I had trouble sitting that long, too, but the performance was worth it! Now the girls know what a “Mary Poppins” is.
