Back in preschool, Caden was in a class where she was the only girl with 9 boys. Several of those 9 boys were very into Star Wars and so, Caden was roped into playing Princess Leia quite a bit. I was a little surprised when she came home talking about Darth Vader, but it’s Star Wars so it’s all good.
Now that the new Star Wars movie is out, the girls want to go very badly. The only problem is that they haven’t watched any of the movies! We’ve talked about this multiple times at work, and my coworker recommended watching them in the machete order. When she first brought this up I thought Really? But then I read his explanation and it made a lot of sense, plus Episode 1 is booted so yes! Except, we don’t own the movies, we moved, and we ran out of time.
Option #2! Watch 4, 5, and 6 over break. Luckily my coworker owns these and brought her DVD set to work so we could borrow them. I had no idea how the girls would react to these movies. They are certainly hyped up about The Force Awakens, but the originals? Would they like them?
They loved them. We watched A New Hope Monday night. I let them stay up late and they loved every minute of it. They asked questions, they loved the characters, and they loved the story. We watched Empire Strikes Back Tuesday afternoon with some popcorn. I felt bad because they had a lot of questions about this one, but it’s been forever since I’ve seen it so I couldn’t answer many of them. They were super happy to see Yoda though! Return of the Jedi will happen tonight, and we have tickets for New Years Eve to see The Force Awakens. Everyone is psyched.
The Munchkins 
Having just come back from TFA, I think just watching 4,5 & 6 is perfect. They’ll know the original trio & have the foundation of the rebellion to understand the goings-on of TFA. Also, I’d be happy to answer any questions they might have–I’ve been living & breathing Star Wars for 30+ years & still live talking about it!
Totally agree with Missy, and we did the same thing – but how did you and the girls like TFA?
They loved it! Caden was very into it. Delaney sat next to me and got a little scared during the darker parts and the fight scenes, but in the end they both loved it!
