It is hard work being the birthday girl!
Annabelle turned ONE on Sunday! What an exciting day for her. She got a pupcake and she got to go to the dog park for the first time.
Annabelle is not the best at coming when called, so I was super nervous to take her to the dog park thinking we would end up chasing her around and looking like fools. But, we need to get her used to other dogs and the dog park is a great way to do it. It was a gorgeous day so I found myself a picnic table and sat down, while the girls took off her leash. The first dog sniffed her, she turned, ran, and jumped onto my lap. I guess we won’t be chasing her! We only stayed about 15 minutes. She interacted with a few dogs, ran laps with a few dogs, and then tried to get aggressive with a pit bull. Oh Annie.
Annie was rescued from a puppy mill, so we have her ‘papers’. They say her mom and dad are both chihuahuas which has always been a bit of a joke, since she clearly looks like a rat terrier. One of her siblings posted on the rescue’s facebook site and he’s only 5 lbs! And looks a lot more like a chihuahua. We’re hoping to get them together for a playdate. How crazy would that be?
Apparently her brother is incredibly laid back. Annabelle? Not so much. She was never a crazy puppy, but she loves loves loves to run in super fast circles in the backyard. She is running so fast her stomach is a half inch off the ground, and the look on her face makes me laugh so hard. It definitely wears her out! She’s an introvert, and loves nothing more than to sleep peacefully on my bed. She’s nervous about new situations, but with time can get used to anything. It took a week, but she has mastered her doggy door and couldn’t be more thrilled that she can go in and out whenever she wants!
While I still miss Lucy every day, and miss having a golden retriever, Annabelle is perfect for us right now. There’s something to be said for a small dog, and she fits into our hearts perfectly.
