The Munchkins

Life with identical twins

on May 22, 2013

So it was my birthday last Friday. I turned 40 which is definitely a milestone birthday. I haven’t been terribly excited about it, but I’ve decided this is the decade where it all comes together for me and we take it to the next level. That last part sounds weird, but you know what I mean right?

On my birthday my mom joined me for a little shopping adventure. I’m a project manager at work, so between that and my children, I was over keeping track of people and making sure they were doing what they needed to be doing. I wanted a day off where the only person I had to worry about was myself. It worked! It was a fabulous day, and completely refreshed my attitude. I need to remember that for the future.

Saturday morning the girls had dance lessons which were crazy because it was also picture day. Of course our pictures weren’t until later that afternoon, so my parents had to bring them back for pictures while I boarded a plan for San Diego to celebrate birthdays with my friend in California. (The pictures turned out super adorable. Seriously.)

Weekends away are tricky. You need time away to just be you, but then you end up missing your kids like crazy. It’s always a balancing act. I did end up missing my kids like crazy, but I also totally enjoyed the sun and girl time.

My parents kept the girls busy, but Caden had a difficult time with me being gone. She has her highs and lows right now, but I keep reminding myself to give her a little extra grace when she’s struggling or is a step behind. I have a short temper with her at times, but she’s clearly in a sensitive mode right now. Getting some distance from things really helped me see that.

So glad you got a chance to be yourself! And yes, I think the 40s will be fabulous!
