I’m exhausted. It didn’t help that I got sick Thursday night and spent the entire weekend trying to recover, but man did the girls run me (and my mom) ragged this weekend. It was like someone put ants in their pants. So hyper, but also so tired, and so dramarama. Where to start? Let’s begin at the beginning.
Friday was an early release day. The girls got out of school two hours early and my plan was to pick them up, grab groceries, then head down to my parent’s house. We all had haircuts scheduled for Saturday morning, so might as well get down there early. Since I was sick I stayed home from work to try to nap a bit, but still had to pick up the girls. I skipped groceries and instead went for the frozen yogurt I had promised them the night before, but couldn’t deliver on. As we drove home I realized I was much better sitting than standing, and asked the girls if they could pack a bag for themselves. We went over what they should pack – one outfit, extra shirt, pajamas, undies. As we were in the car (almost an hour from home) Delaney says “I think I forgot to pack pants.” What? You two were in your room for 10 minutes. I say you throwing many things in the suitcase. No pants? What about pajamas? Nope. Undies? Nope. You know what they did pack? 15 shirts. No lie. Fifteen.
I had been sipping Gatorade the entire drive down and felt much better, so after we saw my mom’s new office we headed to Old Navy to get them some clothes. As a friend said, that’s a genius way to get to go shopping. Caden got super cute pink sweatpants and Delaney got super cute black yoga pants. To be fair, both were probably missing pieces from their wardrobe, but still. Lesson learned. PS – why do they not have normal pajamas in the big girls section? I never understand that.
Saturday morning was haircut time! Here’s another lesson learned, as soon as the pool closes, get them in for haircuts. I had no idea how much damage the sun and pools would do. Their hair was dry, the ends were toast, and we fought tangles all day every day. Caden was so over all the tangles that she (once again) asked for a short bob. This time, I didn’t try to talk her out of it, not even a little.
Here’s her before. She had gotten a short bob two years ago, but had been growing it out since. Her hair was getting really long! Well, long for us.
And the after! With a streak of pink. It is terribly cute and more important, she loves it. We bought a few cute hair clips at the mall to keep her bangs back, but this is going to be much better for our morning routine. Although I will definitely miss putting pigtail braids in. She rocked that look.
I would do a before and after of Delaney, but she just got an inch cut off. She did get a purple streak, but it was dark purple and really hard to photograph. She wanted nothing to do with short hair which was fine with me, since she sits for the brushing much better than Caden.
The afternoon was spent running around at the mall (more on that tomorrow) and playing outside with my dad’s new toy helicopter. The girls were fascinated by it! It was fun to watch them try to maneuver it, but it almost landed on my head a few times, so Delaney and I tried to fly her kite instead. My mom took pictures of me running across the grass with the kite, which will never see the light of day. You know that funny meme that went around about how you actual look when running? Very much like that.
