Vacation is fast approaching! And so, I run through the plan over and over in my head.
Our flight leaves at the crack of dawn. I informed the girls last night that they would be sleeping in their clothes and they thought that was the coolest thing ever! Anything to get us going quickly in the morning. I shipped a box of stuff down to cut down on our suitcases. Still, we have two big suitcases to check. Delaney has her tiny roller suitcase that is our carry on with extra clothes, and Caden has a backpack to carry snacks and crayons. I have my backpack to carry my laptop, leapsters, and everything else that is heavy. I’m one of those people who prefers to get to the gate just as the plane is boarding, but I’m actually going to try to get to the airport early so we can get breakfast beforehand.
The hotel we’re staying in is right on the beach which should be awesome. It has a kitchen in it, and the plan is to make most of our meals. Not to save money, although that will be a nice benefit, but more because taking my girls out to dinner frequently is a losing prospect. Most kids menus are the same, and I don’t want them (not) eating chicken tenders every night, and also because they just don’t eat a ton. We’ll grill, eat sandwiches, and likely eat a lot of fruit and yogurt. I found a pizza place down there that has gluten free pizza, so I’m hoping to hit that one night. And!! I found a gluten free bakery! Definitely hitting that one afternoon.
My parents are staying in a hotel just down the beach, so we can hang with them or do our own thing. I’m hopeful that we’ll get a nice mix of both. The only two outings on the agenda are a Twins spring training game, and a dolphin watching boat tour. The weather is calling for upper 80′s, so the plan is beach/nap/beach/sleep. Or alternately pool/nap/beach/sleep. We can rent cabanas which will be key since I’m a wimp in the sun.
I’m trying to be realistic about this trip. I’m not at all worried about flying with them by myself, they’ll be fine. I’m a little worried about 7 days just us, but I also think they are both in need of some solid Mama time, so 7 days together might be perfect. I’m hopeful that this trip will be rejuvenating, in all the ways we need it right now!
As always, any and all plans will be ditched if they are deemed to be not working. So if you see me schlepping two backpacks and pulling a teeny tiny suitcase, you’ll know the airport plan was a fail.
